Energy-efficient single-ply membrane roofing for flat and commercial buildings. Expert TPO installation and repair across Illinois and Wisconsin.
TPO has become the go-to roofing membrane for flat and low-slope buildings, and for good reason. It is affordable, energy-efficient, and tough, a combination that is hard to beat on a commercial roof. But a TPO roof is only as good as its installation. The seams are heat-welded, the details around penetrations have to be right, and a sloppy install shows up as leaks a year or two later. Salazar Roofing installs and repairs TPO roofing across Illinois and Wisconsin, and we do the seam work right the first time.
TPO stands for thermoplastic polyolefin. It is a single-ply roofing membrane, a large, flexible sheet, rolled out across a flat or low-slope roof and heat-welded at the seams to form one continuous watertight surface. That welded seam is the key: unlike glued or taped systems, a properly welded TPO seam is as strong as the membrane itself. TPO is most often bright white, which is a big part of its appeal.
TPO earns its popularity on a handful of real advantages:
This is a common question when choosing a single-ply membrane. Both TPO and PVC are single-ply systems with heat-welded seams, and both perform well. PVC has an edge in chemical and grease resistance, which is why you often see it on restaurants and buildings with rooftop exhaust. TPO is typically more cost-effective and is the more common choice for general commercial and low-slope buildings where chemical exposure is not a concern. For most Illinois and Wisconsin buildings, TPO offers the best balance of price and performance, which is why we install it.
A TPO roof lives and dies by its installation. We prepare the deck and insulation, roll out and fasten the membrane, and heat-weld every seam to a continuous bond. The details, flashing at walls and curbs, sealing around vents and drains, corner terminations, are where TPO roofs succeed or fail, and they are where experience shows. We install TPO to manufacturer specification so the warranty holds and the roof lasts.
An older or damaged TPO roof can often be repaired rather than replaced. We handle seam re-welds, puncture and tear patches, flashing repairs, and leak detection. If your TPO roof is leaking or nearing the end of its life, we will give you an honest read on whether a repair or a new membrane is the smarter move.
TPO is a workhorse commercial membrane, and most of the TPO we install goes on commercial and multi-unit buildings. If you are a property owner or manager weighing your options, our commercial roofing team can walk you through TPO alongside the other systems we install. TPO is also one of the core options on our flat roofing page.
Whether you are planning a new TPO roof or need an existing one repaired, we will give you a clear, written scope. Call (847) 989-0373 or request a free quote today.
